Here is a great video created by some creative people in the diabetes community. Please take 1 minute and 49 seconds to watch it, because every view translates into a donation that will make a week's worth of insulin a reality for children with diabetes in need.
And since yesterday was Halloween, here's a shot of the kid at the end of the night, after all the sorting and trading was finished.
Can't tell what she was meant to be? Don't worry, neither could anyone else. This didn't phase her. Because she thought her costume was kick-ass. And it was.
These girls are clearly Claudia from Warehouse 13 and Katniss from The Hunger Games, two very strong female characters in pop culture. Not "Robin Hood and her kinda punk-rock apprentice", which is what everyone seemed to think they were. At least, that's what they reported to us at the end of the night after trick-or-treating for two hours by themselves (for the first time omg). Of course, they checked in about every 30 minutes, I'm not made of stone people! Phew.
L looks like she had a blast! Love the post candy-sorting-trading carnage!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shoutout, Shannon!
ReplyDeleteMan do I need a lesson in pop culture because I have no idea who Claudia and Katniss are. I blame it on me being lame.
ReplyDeleteThey do look pretty cool though!
I love your header - is that from one of the monument pictures?
ReplyDeleteThe big blue test video is awesome, and such a worthy cause.
I just found the Hunger Games in my sons dresser. I asked him if he read it, he said he hasn't had the time. So it is sitting on the table next to me and I hope to find time to read it before him.
ReplyDeleteLove the blue blog!
Love the blue baby!!! Your daughter is so bright! Glad she had fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments, all! :)
ReplyDeleteJoanne - Claudia is from an X-Files-ish show on the SciFi channel and Katniss is the main character in a YA novel called The Hunger Games. Your excuse: parenting two small children! When my kid was the age of yours I didn't have a clue about what was up in pop culture land.
Lorraine - No, though it totally looks like it! It was an option in the customize toolbar thingy. It's actually flames from a gas stove!
Meri - I read it and it was AWESOME. L just finished it and is on the second book. Kind of intense for her age, I thought, but she enjoyed it nonetheless.
Two thumbs up for creativity! I have a list of books for my kids to read as they get older, mostly recommendations from others. I'm adding The Hunger Games to it now!
ReplyDeleteI, too, love the header!
