big blue test

Today is World Diabetes Day and our family joined hundreds (thousands?) of others who participated in the Big Blue Test around the world. There was even a Twitter hashtag: #bigbluetest. The guidelines were simple:

1. On November 14 at 2 pm, test your blood sugar.
2. Get active for 14 minutes.
3. Test again.

All three members of our family participated. We tested our BGs and played soccer in our backyard:

This shot was taken when I was in goal, at the exact moment that the ball was kicked right into my gut. OOF! Please note the complete lack of concern for my well being coming from L. She laughed. HARD.

Here are our before and after BGs:

L had the largest drop, obviously, but she also had a bit of insulin still on board from lunch. John's post-exercise number earned him the snarky "You got Nick Jonas' favorite BG reading" sing-song from L. And mine? Well, maybe I just wasn't running around as much as the other two. OOF!

Happy World Diabetes Day, Ya'll! Hope you had a good one! :)

  2. Shannon, L is so beautiful. I mean, I've seen pictures you post and have observed it all along, but she's just really a gorgeous young lady.

also, could you and John be any more perfect for each other? These pictures suggest NOT. (I love your dork faces.)

  3. Very cool... we didn't take part because I have no idea how to make a three year old exercise for 14 minutes!

  6. We did the Big Blue Test, too. Jack's BG was 56 before we started and so we were happy to see him go up to 71. But still I wondered how much higher he would have gone without the activity.

Love the photos! L is beautiful!
