L immediately knew what she wanted to do; I took a little longer to figure it out. We ended up doing very similar projects (read: I kind of ripped off her idea), sharing many of the same supplies. The result is a little bit of a "two sides of the same coin" thing going on. You can see her finished product here.
And here's mine:
Canvas, acrylic paint, markers, crayons, alcohol wipe wrappers, used test strips and one lancet.
I started out with my own spin on L's version of the World Diabetes Day Logo and then realized it could be used as the outline of a clock. So much of my days are spent thinking about time: How long since her last bolus? When will she need to test again? Gotta set the alarm for three hours from now to check her while she's sleeping, etc. So all I had to do was go digging in her sharps container for some old test strips and grab a lancet from her tester kit and I was good to go.
Thanks to Lee Ann for getting the ball rolling on this project. L and I had a really good time, working on our creations together. If you're interested in seeing more art from around the DOC, please visit the permanent gallery here.
I, too, am the parent of a child with type 1 diabetes, and like you, I spend so much of my day focused on time. Your art is a great representation of that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this day :)
Really, isn't our day spent looking at the clock. Great piece of art!
ReplyDeleteThat is perfect. Sometimes I wish I could just go without thinking about time!
