advice about leg site sought

Do any of you cool cats and kittens use a leg site with your (non-pod) insulin pump? L is interested in trying out a new area for infusion sites (she uses a Medtronic pump with Mio infusion sets, fyi). We've only used the belly and the arms, so we don't even know where to start when it comes to the legs. Top/side/back? How far down do you go? She's got a lot of muscle in her legs, so we'd like to avoid those areas, obvs. Anyone got any good tips and experiences with leg sites? Please and thank you!

And in case you stopped by but can't help with my query, here's a sunny song to kick off your weekend.

  1. I use the top of my thigh, towards the side, like kind of under my hip. I actually usually use that spot for my CGM sensors, but sometimes I use it for my sites too. :)

  2. Yup! I use the same areas Karen does. It's usually the area covered by your hand if you put it in your jeans pocket, or just to the outside of that, for me. :)

  3. Ditto as above. My doctor is not a fan of thigh sites so I am not using them for a while. Kim's description on locale is what I use.

  4. We use Mios and both girls use thighs. My older is very lean and uses thighs almost exclusively (we're working on that). They use top 1/3 of thigh and stick to the front of the thigh and towards the outside a little. A lot of room there. Absorption is fine for both girls.

  5. Top of the thigh. We now use front, from middle to anterior but started with the back of the thigh. If you put the heel of your hand where thigh meets torso, around where your fingertips land. We do use sils still and have been told sils because they are going in at 30 degree angle, work best for this area rather than 90 degree angle set. I know you can go lower on the thigh as well. Only tip is to pinch up the skin so as to be sure you have enough fat in the area. P.S. For us the thigh sets sometimes have to be changed more often... she has more wear and tear, pulls out accidentally sometimes, etc. But perfectly doable; absorption is good.

  7. We only use the bum! Like my idol, JOE! But I want to start working the belly--I heard a science and a rumor that absorption will be better there.

  10. Since I started using Sure-T's about a month ago (much shorter cannula than the Silhouettes I used previously), I've been using my lower back. It's kind of where, if you put your hands on your hips with your thumbs in front, where the fingers reach in back. I'm liking it so far. I've got very little "meat" on my body, but I can pinch half-an-inch there. Also, the Sure-T is very low profile and sits flush with the skin rather than bumping out, which gives more options. You can kinda see it here (http://t.co/9FQmduXY)
